Want to learn
FRENCH for
good?
Bonjour! Vous voulez parler français? I'm a French teacher and I would love to help you! Check my step by step guide below.
Step 1
What is your level?
First things first, we both need to know what your current level is. Are you beginner, intermediate, advanced, or complete beginner? It's likely that even if you have an idea where you are, you are not very clear what you are supposed to know at each level.
To figure this out, you can check the descriptions below and/or book an assessment appointment with me. I use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) as a base.
A0 - Zero French
You don't know any French except 'bonjour'. You never studied it or you did but you don't remember anything at all. It is the best starting point!
A1 - Lower beginner
You know some French. How to introduce yourself, how to order a drink, how to make simple sentences about basic topics. You mostly use the present tense.
A2 - Upper beginner
Here you get more vocabulary about practical situations, you can use some past and future tenses. You can use the present conditional.
B1 - Lower intermediate
In B1, you start learning slightly more complex sentence structures, more tenses (like the subjunctive) and you can express nuances. You start to be able to talk about more abstract topics.
B2 - Upper intermediate
Here you are really growing your range of vocabulary, you can cover many more situations, give details, and have conversations about a large range of topics, often abstract.
C1 - Advanced
C1 is where you can be considered fully 'fluent'. You can talk about complex topics, use precise words, understand others very well, differentiate speaking styles. You can be fully spontaneous and make jokes!
C2 - Expert
This is the native level. That's where I am. I mean, not exactly, I'm C18 but that's as close as it gets. In this level you can read philosophy in French, you still won't understand anything but it won't be because of the language. If you are C2, you don't need my services but you can still reach out in French if you're bored.
TASTE
french
You don't know if you'll like it? You don't know if you'll like the teacher (me)? You don't know if you can or really want to? It is like a tshirt: you can try it before you buy it. Join some fun public events without commitment to see if we are a match!
LEARN
french
Okay so you know you really want to learn French. Maybe you like the sound of it, or maybe you like a French person. Maybe it's for work. Or maybe you just see it as a personal challenge. Maybe you don't know a word, maybe you can have a decent conversation. Regardless of your reasons and level, I got you covered. Check my private lessons offer.
MAINTAIN
french
So you know French already, you can order wine and ask where the toilets are -maybe you can even have a decent or good conversation with some French native. And you don't want to formally improve it because you don't have the time or brain power for it just now. You just want to maintain your level so you don't forget it. Check the class 'Speak French'.
PERFECT
french
You know French, but you still feel a bit confused. You realize you make mistakes, but you’re not sure what they are. You don’t know the hidden rules that would magically reveal the reasons behind your errors. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced learner of French, you can still perfect your knowledge and be confident you’re correct. Check out my workshops and short courses!
Step 2
What do you want to do?
Step 3
How do you want to do it?
So, how do you want to learn French? Public classes or private lessons? Online or face-to-face? With me or independently? I can do it all, but if you live in Japan and you want to see me in person, I'm afraid you will have to move to Seville, Spain... If it's a little bit too much to ask, then you can still see me online, and it's really cool too! Now if you are not sure what would be best for you, you can contact me, and I will direct you to the best services according to your goals.

About me
Marina Bombal - Native French teacher - 7 years of experience
Born in the North-East of France, in the region of Nancy, I grew up in the South, near the lovely medieval town of Carcassonne. Since as far as I can remember, I always wanted to travel. And I always wanted to teach. At 22, I flew to Edinburgh, Scotland, and stayed 9 years! In Kilt Land, I perfected my English, grew my love for languages, and decided it was time to get into teaching. I started 'French to take away', and here I am!
